Cookie Policy
Effective Date:
At the Handwritium Archive, we do things a little differently. Most websites use this page to explain the dozens of third-party tracking cookies they inject into your browser. We don't use any of them.
1. No Tracking Cookies
We believe your reading and viewing habits are your own business. Therefore, the Archive does not use traditional tracking cookies, advertising pixels, or telemetry scripts (such as Google Analytics or Meta Pixels) to monitor your behavior across the web.
2. How We Use "Local Storage" Instead
Instead of sending cookies back and forth to a server, our platform relies entirely on a modern web feature called HTML5 Local Storage. This allows the Archive to save your preferences directly onto your own device's hard drive or phone memory.
The only data we store on your device includes:
- UI Preferences: Your selected theme (dark/light mode), accent color, font family, and font size.
- Your Library: Books or videos you have saved to your "Favorites."
- Your History: The recent media you have interacted with, so you can easily pick up where you left off.
3. Why You Don't See Annoying Cookie Banners
Under global privacy laws (such as the GDPR in Europe and the ePrivacy Directive), websites are required to show consent banners for non-essential, tracking, or marketing cookies.
Because the Handwritium Archive only stores data locally to provide the exact functionality you request (like remembering your theme or saving a book), and because none of this data is ever sent to our servers, these storage methods are classified as "strictly necessary." As a result, we are exempt from interrupting your experience with cookie consent banners.
4. Managing and Deleting Your Data
Because your data is stored locally on your device, you have absolute control over it. You can delete all your stored preferences, history, and favorites at any time by:
- Navigating to the Settings page on the Archive and clicking the "Clear Data" button.
- Clearing your web browser's cache and website data via your browser's standard settings menu.
Please note: If you clear your browser data or use "Incognito/Private" mode, your settings and saved library will be reset every time you close the browser.
